Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Age 30-70 Normal renal and hepatic function Prepared to self inject Previous documented imparied glucose tolerance test Are the trial subjects under 18? no Number of subjects for this age range: F.1.2 Adults (18-64 years) yes F.1.2.1 Number of subjects for this age range F.1.3 Elderly (>=65 years) no F.1.3.1 Number of subjects for this age range

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Untreated thyroid disease as this interferes with GH therapy. Untreated or subclinically treated hypocorticosolism. Type 1 or type 2 diabetes. Subjects with evidence of nephropathy. Subjects with evidence of retinopathy. Any other medical illness that may affect the interpretation of the results Pregnant. Emotional/ social instability likely to prejudice study completion Previous history of known malignancy. Recurrent or severe unexplained hypoglycaemia. Known or suspected drug and/or alcohol abuse.

Main Objective: To determine whether low dose growth hormone treatment improved glucose metabolism in adults with impaired glucose tolerance;Secondary Objective: To determine whether low dose growth hormone treatment improves body composition and cardiovascular risk factors in adults with impaired glucose tolerance;Primary end point(s): Improvement in the oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). This is measured by area under the glucose curve following a standard 2 hour 75gm OGTT to show improvement in post load glucose tolerance
