Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: All patients undergoing major lower limb amputation (below knee, through knee, or above knee) for peripheral vascular disease will be selected for the study. Are the trial subjects under 18? no Number of subjects for this age range: F.1.2 Adults (18-64 years) yes F.1.2.1 Number of subjects for this age range F.1.3 Elderly (>=65 years) yes F.1.3.1 Number of subjects for this age range

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients unable to give informed consent (dementia or severly ill). Those patients undergoing urgent or emergency amputation where adequate time has not been available to gain informed consent for participations in the trial (less than 24 hours).

Main Objective: To assess whether MRSA prophylaxis in pateints undergoing lower limb amputation prevents post-operative MRSA infection.;Secondary Objective: Time to wound healing, days in hospital, need for revision surgery and death;Primary end point(s): Primary wound healing. Post operative wound MRSA infection
