Interventions

Group 1: A single-arm, monocentric, cross-sectional observational study without intervention. The study examined a group of adult patients aged 18 and over with bilateral cochlear implants, whose init
side-discriminated speech understanding using the Freiburg Monosyllable Test
loudness scaling
and subjective assessment of directional hearing using a standardised questionnaire. A comparison group of people with normal hearing was not specifically recruited, but was drawn from published refer
consequently, the study comprises only this single arm.

Inclusion criteria: min. 6 month of duration with two cochlear implants

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Just one cochlear implant, not 18 years old

Objective directional hearing performance in the Extended Children’s Table Test (ERKI) is measured by the mean angular deviation between the target and response positions in degrees, as well as the hit rate in the reference range, defined as the proportion of stimuli with a deviation of no more than plus or minus 10 degrees. The assessment was carried out once per person under standardised conditions in the soundproof booth.

Correlation between objective directional hearing performance in the ERKI test (angular deviation in degrees, hit rate within the reference range as a percentage) and the duration of bilateral cochlear implant use in months. Correlation between objective directional hearing performance in the ERKI test and the subjective self-assessment of directional hearing, measured as the total score of a standardised questionnaire, expressed as a percentage. Correlation between side-specific localisation bias in the ERKI test (in degrees) and asymmetry in side-separated speech understanding, measured as the difference in percentage word intelligibility between the left and right ears in the Freiburg Monosyllable Test.
