Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Birth at Uniklinik Köln between 01.01.2025 and 31.12.2025, gestational age =35 weeks; primary admission to the maternity ward, and the presence of at least one risk factor for neonatal hypoglycemia. Risk factors include insulin-treated or diet-controlled gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), maternal type 1 diabetes mellitus, maternal preeclampsia, labor induction, late preterm birth (35–37 weeks of gestation), small for gestational age (SGA; 90th percentile), and perinatal stress (umbilical cord pH <7.1, Apgar score <5, pathological cardiotocography [CTG], secondary cesarean section, vacuum-assisted delivery, forceps delivery, or neonatal adaptation disorder).

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Birth outside the Uniklinik Köln, gestational age =35 weeks, primary admission to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), or absence of any risk factors for neonatal hypoglycemia.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Transfer to the neonatal ward or NICU for invasive treatment of the hypoglycaemia. The data will be taken from the patient files to complete the documentation form.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
incidence, symptoms and duration of neonatal hypoglycaemia, as well as lowest blood glucose.
