Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: inpatient medical rehabilitation at Nachsorgeklinik Tannheim, diagnosis of cancer, cystic fibrosis, congenital or acquired heart disease, chronic lung disease, inflammatory bowel disease, type 1 diabetes mellitus, or obesity, sufficient German language skills to understand the study information and complete the questionnaires, ability to complete the questionnaires independently, and written informed consent; for minors, additional written informed consent from a parent or legal guardian.

Exclusion criteria: Failure to meet one or more inclusion criteria.

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Change in health-related quality of life measured by the PROMIS® Global Mental Health 4a score between baseline at the beginning of inpatient rehabilitation (T0) and discharge at the end of rehabilitation (T1). Data are collected using the standardized PROMIS® Global Mental Health 4a patient-reported outcome measure.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Changes in self-efficacy, anxiety, and depression between baseline (T0) and discharge (T1). Self-efficacy is assessed using the PROMIS® General Self-Efficacy 4a, PROMIS® Self-Efficacy for Managing Emotions 4a, PROMIS® Self-Efficacy for Managing Symptoms 4a, and the General Self-Efficacy Scale (SWE). Anxiety and depression are assessed using the PROMIS® Anxiety 4a and PROMIS® Depression 4a instruments. In addition, the qualitative component explores participants' experiences with art therapy, perceived mechanisms of action, and individual change processes using problem-centered interviews.
