Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
What: Psychometric properties of the German version of the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ-30): factor structure, internal consistency, convergent validity (association with emotion regulation difficulties and alexithymia), criterion validity (association with wellbeing, psychological distress, and dissociation), discriminant validity (differentiation from self-deception in response behavior), and incremental validity over the short version ERQ-S. When: Once, as part of the online assessment. How: Assessed with the German ERQ-30 version and, for comparison, the Perth Emotion Regulation Competency Inventory (PERCI), the Perth Alexithymia Questionnaire (PAQ), the WHO-5 Wellbeing Index (WHO-5), the Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS-21), the Stanford Multifaceted Dissociation Questionnaire (SMDQ), and the self-deception subscale of the German short form of the Balanced Inventory of Desirable Responding (BIDR).

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
1. What: Association between perceived controllability of emotions and emotion regulation or mental health. When: Once, as part of the online assessment. How: Assessed with the Implicit Beliefs about Emotions Scale (IBES) as well as the ERQ-30, WHO-5, and DASS-21. 2. What: Association between childhood adversity and emotion regulation strategies (including emotion regulation profiles). When: Once, as part of the online assessment. How: Assessed with the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire – Short Form (CTQ-SF) and the ERQ-30. 3. What: Exploratory analyses of strategy diversity, strategy profiles, predictors of mental health, and associations with parenthood and personality traits. When: Once, as part of the online assessment. How: Assessed with the ERQ-30, WHO-5, DASS-21, Big Five Inventory (short version, BFI-XS), Dissociation Beliefs Scale (DBS), and sociodemographic information. The full statistical analysis plan (method, parameters, a priori defined expected values per hypothesis, handling of missing values, outliers, and data quality) is filed as a separate document and will be published on OSF prior to the start of data collection.
