Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Children aged five to nine years with selective mutism were included. Parents had to complete an initial consultation, receive information about the study procedures, intervention, and requirements, and provide informed consent for participation. In addition, children had to be suitable for participation in the intensive group treatment. Participants were also selected based on age in order to obtain a relatively homogeneous age distribution within the groups.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Children were excluded if they were outside the intended age range, if their families decided not to continue participation after the initial contact, or if the child was found not to be suitable for participation in the intensive group treatment. One child was excluded after baseline 2 because the criteria for group participation were not met and relevant comorbidities became apparent that required primary treatment.

Symptom severity is assessed using the mean score of the Severity Scale of the Frankfurt Scale for the Assessment of Selective Mutism (FSSM; parent report). Remission is defined as no longer meeting diagnostic criteria for selective mutism in a structured clinical interview according to DSM-5. Diagnostic status is assessed using the Diagnostic Interview for Mental Disorders in Children and Adolescents (Kinder-DIPS). Assessments are conducted at four time points: baseline 1, baseline 2, post-treatment after the intensive group intervention, and follow-up three months after the post-treatment assessment. | — |
