Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: • Age: Age of majority • Confirmed diagnosis of TMD (for groups 1 &2 • Good general condition • Signed consent form and consent under data protection law

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: • Age under 18 years • Wearing a total or partial denture • Systemic, neuromuscular, rheumatic, cardiovascular, metabolic, respiratory, acutely inflammatory or infectious diseases • Pregnancy • People with pacemakers, severe bronchial asthma or COPD • Splint therapy that has already taken place in the dental clinic of Erlangen • Medications with potential impact on HRV • Acute/past injuries in the face/jaw area with potential influence on splint therapy • Residence with significant geographical distance • People without a smartphone

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Answering the current questions of the influence of splint therapy on heart rate variability in TMD. During TMD therapy, HRV is measured using an HRV measuring device to draw conclusions about the success of TMD therapy.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Secondary endpoints include changes in clinical functional assessment and subject-reported symptom improvement.
