Conditions

Complex musculoskeletal diseases are conditions that affect the bones, joints, muscles, or tendons and are often associated with changes in bone strength or bone metabolism. These include, for example, rare bone diseases (such as osteogenesis imperfecta, X-linked hypophosphatemia, or hypophosphatasia), osteoporosis, inflammatory or genetic skeletal disorders, and other diseases affecting the musculoskeletal system.

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients with a clinically and/or genetically confirmed complex musculoskeletal disease. Availability of DXA examinations performed as part of routine clinical care with analyzable datasets for bone mineral density (BMD), trabecular bone score (TBS), and/or structural bone parameters (3D-Shaper) from 2023 on. Availability of complete baseline clinical data (e.g., age, sex, and diagnosis).

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Incomplete or non-analyzable DXA imaging data. Missing essential clinical data required for the planned analyses.

• To describe the distribution and variability of areal bone mineral density in patients with complex musculoskeletal diseases. • To evaluate trabecular bone microarchitecture and determine the prevalence of altered trabecular structure in patients with complex musculoskeletal diseases. • To analyze structural bone parameters, including cortical thickness, cortical surface bone density, and trabecular volumetric bone density. • To explore associations between DXA-derived skeletal Imaging parameters and biochemical characteristics of complex musculoskeletal diseases.
