Interventions

Group 1: Retrospective analysis of all patients who were hospitalized with a diagnosis of herpes zoster at RWTH Aachen University Hospital and the University Hospital of Cologne between 2022 and 2024.

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: All patients who were hospitalized at RWTH Aachen University Hospital and Cologne University Hospital between 2022 and 2024 and between 2012 and 2014 with a diagnosis of herpes zoster (ICD-10: B02) and who had involvement of the trigeminal region. This includes both monosegmental courses affecting the trigeminal region and multisegmental courses involving the trigeminal region, as well as disseminated forms of zoster.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients who were not hospitalized (since the study only includes stationary/inhospital patients). Patients with Herpes Zoster not involving the trigeminal region (e.g., thoracic, lumbar, or other dermatomes). Patients treated outside the specified periods (2012–2014 and 2022–2024).

Incidence of diagnosed central nervous system (CNS) involvement in patients with herpes zoster of the trigeminal region, including a comparison between the two study centers 3. A temporal comparison (2012–2014 vs. 2022–2024) of the rate of lumbar punctures and the incidence of CNS involvement at both sites.	—
