Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: All adult patients undergoing a tonsillectomy or abscess tonsillectomy at the ENT Clinic of Johannes Wesling Hospital Minden within a calendar year are to be included.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria include: an inability to communicate in German that limits the assessment of the pain scale; a pre-existing blood coagulation disorder (including that resulting from the perioperative use of oral anticoagulants such as Xarelto, Apixaban, or Marcumar); advanced hepatic insufficiency; a Quick value below 60%; and patients treated as inpatients at the facility for post-tonsillectomy hemorrhage following surgery performed elsewhere. The study population comprises patients aged 18 years and older.

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The primary endpoint is the occurrence of postoperative bleeding (yes/no) in relation to ambient temperature and humidity at the time of surgery and during the days following the operation.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Secondary endpoints are climate-dependent postoperative pain perception and analgesic consumption, the severity and timing of postoperative bleeding, the course of wound healing, and the influence of covariates (gender, age, wound infections).
