Eligibility
Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: The study includes patients with urothelial carcinomas of the upper urinary tract who underwent a radical nephrectomy with ureterectomy or a nephrectomy with ureterectomy at the Department of Urology, UKSH Campus Lübeck, between 2010 and 2025, and whose tissue samples are available at the Institute of Pathology, UKSH, Campus Lübeck. Only patients who have signed a broad consent form will be included.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Patients with urothelial carcinomas of the upper urinary tract who underwent surgical treatment between 2010 and 2025 at the Department of Urology, UKSH Campus Lübeck, but did not sign a broad consent form, are excluded.
Design outcomes
Primary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| Quantification and comparison of C5aR1 and C5aR2 expression in tumor tissue and corresponding normal tissue from the included patients using immunohistochemical staining and digital image analysis. | — |
Secondary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| 1. Quantification and comparison of immune cell infiltration as a function of the expression of the two receptors using spatial transcriptomics to quantify immune cell populations per patient/region. 2. Correlation of receptor expression (C5aR1/C5aR2) and immune cell infiltration with clinical-pathological parameters using correlation analyses. 3. Analysis of differential gene expression between tumor and normal tissue to investigate the influence of the receptors using spatial transcriptomics with differential expression analysis per tissue region (tumor vs. normal tissue). 4. Identification of active signaling pathways in patients’ tumor samples and analysis of differences depending on receptor expression (C5aR1/C5aR2) using bioinformatic signaling pathway analysis of the spatial transcriptomics data. | — |
