Postoperative care following foot and ankle surgery

Interventions

Group 1: Standard postoperative treatment (Control Group): - 2 weeks of non-weight-bearing in a walker boot (e.g., Vacoped) - Followed by 20 kg partial weight-bearing in the walker boot for 4 weeks -

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: - Patients undergoing foot and ankle surgery followed by the above-mentioned postoperative protocol.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - Polyneuropathy - Wheelchair dependence - Dementia

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Difference in the change in EFAS score from the preoperative to the postoperative period between the partial-load and full-load cohorts.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
-Compliance with prescribed load limits. -Radiographic bone consolidation/healing in relation to postoperative load. -Revision rate. -Time to return to work. -Time to return to sports. -Change in FAOS subscales. -Change in NRS. -Change in EQ-5D-5L. -Postoperative differences in the aforementioned outcomes depending on the actual postoperative load.
