Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: - diagnosed hypothyroidism - levothyroxine monotherapy for at least 6 months - stable levothyroxine dose for at least 3 months

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - Current use of other medications known to influence resting energy expenditure - Current use of thyroid medication other than levothyroxine - Clinically relevant sleep disturbances

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Within-participant difference in resting energy expenditure (kcal/day), assessed by indirect calorimetry, between regular morning levothyroxine intake and a single omission on the measurement day. Both measurements are performed in the morning after an overnight fast and a 10-minute resting period, with a maximum interval of 7 days.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Within-participant differences in respiratory quotient and substrate oxidation, particularly fat and carbohydrate oxidation (%), assessed by indirect calorimetry, between regular morning levothyroxine intake and a single omission on the measurement day. Both measurements are performed in the morning after an overnight fast and a 10-minute resting period, with a maximum interval of 7 days.
