Conditions

Investigation of individual differences in resting-state brain activity (“neural fingerprints”), including their stability, identifiability, and association with psychological characteristics in healthy adults.

Interventions

Group 1: Healthy adults Healthy adult participants (18–50 years) undergo a single standardized assessment including psychological questionnaires, magnetoencephalography (MEG), and magnetic resonance
approximately 10 minutes each). MRI includes structural imaging (T1-weighted and T2-weighted scans) and two resting-state fMRI recordings (eyes open and eyes closed
approximately 10 minutes each). Data collection takes place once during an observation period consisting of one or two study visits.

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: -Healthy adults -Ability to understand study information and provide informed consent -Willingness to participate in MEG, MRI, and questionnaire assessments -No contraindications to MEG or MRI

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: -Current neurological or psychiatric disorders that could relevantly affect study participation, participant safety, or interpretation of the acquired data -Current use of medication that may affect brain activity -Acute alcohol or recreational drug intoxication at the time of participation -Contraindications to MEG or MRI, including pacemakers, neurostimulators, insulin pumps, non-MRI-compatible implants, or metallic foreign bodies -Non-removable metal-containing braces or retainers -Severe claustrophobia -Other safety-relevant exclusion criteria according to MEG/MRI safety screening

Primary Endpoint What? Stability and identifiability of individual neural fingerprints derived from intrinsic brain activity. When? T1: during resting-state MEG recordings (eyes open and eyes closed). T2: during resting-state fMRI recordings (eyes open and eyes closed). How? Neural fingerprints will be derived from resting-state magnetoencephalography (MEG) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data. Outcome measures include fingerprint identification accuracy, within-subject stability, functional connectivity patterns, and spectral characteristics of brain activity.

T1/T2: association analyses with neural fingerprint measures derived from MEG and fMRI. How? Assessment using standardized questionnaires: General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28) Brief Resilience Scale (BRS) Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ) Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (CERQ) Cognitive Flexibility Questionnaire (COFLEX) Attention Control Scale (ACS) UPPS Impulsive Behavior Scale (UPPS) Life Events Checklist (LEC) Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ) followed by association analyses with neural fingerprint metrics obtained from MEG and fMRI recordings. Secondary Endpoint 2 What? Contribution of different neurophysiological features to individual identifiability. When? T1: MEG recording session. T2: fMRI recording session. How? Analysis of spectral properties, functional connectivity, network characteristics, and periodic and aperiodic components of neural activity derived from MEG and fMRI data. For DRKS specifically, I would actually enter only one primary endpoint ("Stability and identifiability of neural fingerprints") and keep everything else as secondary endpoints. That aligns best with how observational neuroimaging studies are usually registered.
