Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Heat Strain Score Index (HSSI, Dehghan et al., 2013) Definition: Experience of heat stress measured using the heat strain score index. Instrument: The HSSI will be assessed using a 18-item recall questionnaire. The HSSI is a validated assessment of heat stress in the workplace, which we adapt to the home setting. A score of 18 indicates the onset of heat-induced illness. Time of Measurement: 6 months after cool roof installation.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Climate anxiety: (Climate Change Anxiety Scale (CCAS); Clayton & Karzsia, 2020) GAD-7: (Generalized Anxiety Questionnaire GAD-7; Spitzer et al., 2006) Solastalgia: (Brief Solastalgia Scale (BSS); Christensen et al., 2024) PHQ-9: depression (Patient Health Questionnaire PHQ-9; Kroenke et al., 2001) Aggression (Buss Perry Aggression Questionnaire SF- BPAQ; Bryant & Smith, 2001) Other self-reported outcomes: Sleep duration: Self-reported duration of sleep in hours. Sleep awakenings: Self-reported frequency of awakenings during nighttime sleep. Heat-related symptoms: Self-reported occurance of heat related symptoms during the last heat period. Instruments: Secondary outcomes will be assessed by the means of a face-to-face interviews (Recall questions answered by individual using the scales mentioned above). Time of Measurement: 6 months after cool roof installation.
