Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: • Liver transplants performed at the University Hospital Essen between 01 January 2010 and 31 December 2019 • Availability of histological frozen section findings of the donor organ (Institute of Pathology, University Hospital Essen) • Availability of clinical follow-up data (Department of General, Visceral and Transplantation Surgery, University Hospital Essen)

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: • Missing histological frozen section findings of the donor organ • Missing clinical follow-up data of the recipient • Liver transplantations performed outside the defined study period (before 01 January 2010 or after 31 December 2019)

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Occurrence of early complications within 7 days after liver transplantation, defined as: • Early Allograft Dysfunction (EAD): AST (GOT) or ALT (GPT) >2000 U/L, or total bilirubin >10 mg/dL, or INR >1.6 • Primary Non-Function (PNF): Primary graft failure requiring retransplantation or resulting in patient death • Unremarkable course: Absence of the above-mentioned criteria within the first 7 days after transplantation

• 1-year survival after liver transplantation • Correlation between histological and surgical assessment of steatosis • Influence of additional donor and recipient parameters on outcome
