Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients who had at least one visit to a university outpatient clinic or an inpatient stay in a general ward with a digital medical record system in place, and who received at least one prescription for medication between March 1, 2023, and February 28, 2025.

Drug-related factors are quantified based on their association with the EASIX score and using descriptive p-values. To this end, the effect of endothelial-modulating drugs on the EASIX is examined as a continuous variable, calculated using the formula EASIX = (LDH [U/L] * Creatinine [mg/dL]) / Platelets [10^9/L] at three time points: on admission, after 7 days, and at discharge. In addition, a combined index (ECO-I) is calculated on an exploratory basis, resulting from a weighted combination of log2-transformed CRP and log2-transformed EASIX. ECO-I is included as a continuous variable in the statistical models. The association of ECO-I with clinical endpoints is investigated in the same manner as EASIX. Furthermore, the influence of high and low EASIX scores—taking medications into account—on efficacy and adverse effects is analyzed. Furthermore, the study aims to explore the relationship between the score and the combined ECO-I index to patient-relevant clinical endpoints, including time to death or transfer to the intensive care unit (censored at discharge), length of hospital stay, and the occurrence of adverse event syndromes (e.g., renal dysfunction, delirium).
