Eligibility
Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: - EOSedge® imaging of the spine (at least the complete thoracolumbar region) in the orthopedic outpatient clinic based on a medical indication and with sufficient EOS image quality - Ability to independently perform simple trunk movements (flexion, extension, lateral bending, axial rotation) and walking on a treadmill - Written informed consent
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: - Previous spinal surgeries (e.g., fusion, implants, disc prostheses, injections) - Diseases or functional limitations that significantly impair motion analysis, such as severe central neurological or musculoskeletal disorders - Pronounced scoliosis (> 20° Cobb angle) - Obesity (BMI > 30 kg/m²) - Active implants or devices that could interfere with electromagnetic measurements - Pregnancy - Lack of capacity to provide informed consent
Design outcomes
Primary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| The spinal load sharing amongst ligaments, disks, muscles and facet joints during active movements is examined with the help of patient-specific in silico models and related to age, sex and spinopelvic parameters of the patients. The corresponding in silico models are created based on medical images. Predicted results are validated with kinematics and muscle stimulation data after movement analysis of the same patients. | — |
Secondary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| 1.) Classification of kinematic and muscle activation with respect to age, sex and spinopelvic parameters 2.) Uncertainty analysis of in silico spine model predictions depending on the level of model personalisation | — |
