Head Movement in Everyday Life

Interventions

Group 1: Healthy participants aged 18 to 35 (N=20). All parameters are measured during a single session. Participants perform standardized tasks based on everyday situations, including head movements

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: - German as a native language or adequate knowledge of German - Sufficient vision (corrected with contact lenses or glasses if necessary)

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - Pre-existing neurological/vestibular conditions: Known disorders of the sense of balance, dizziness, or diagnosed neurological conditions - Acute injuries: Injuries or surgeries involving the musculoskeletal system (cervical spine, hip, knee) that impair natural gait or head motor function - Substance-related factors: Use of medications that affect reaction time or motor function

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Consistency between the ear-worn sensors and the optoelectronic reference system with regard to basic head kinematic parameters, such as angular velocity and acceleration amplitudes, across various movement tasks.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
- Identification and differentiation of task-specific head kinematic features such as eye movements, speech, and walking. - Validity of motion parameters extracted from sensor data (e.g., head angle, step speed) compared to the gold standard. - Reliability of measurements under comparable movement conditions. - Temporally precise detection of specific movement events and calculation of parameters derived from them. - Investigation of the sensor system’s robustness against everyday artifacts.
