Design outcomes
Primary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| The primary endpoint is the occurrence of a postoperative complication after esophagectomy. Data are collected retrospectively after the patient has been discharged. Routine clinical data are used for this purpose, including information from discharge letters, operative reports, clinical progress notes, imaging findings, endoscopic findings, and other clinical documentation systems. No questionnaires or study-specific scores are used. | — |
Secondary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| Secondary endpoints include postoperative mortality, length of hospital stay, overall survival, and oncological outcome after esophagectomy. Postoperative mortality is recorded as death during the inpatient stay as well as death within 30 and 90 days after surgery. Length of hospital stay is defined as the number of days from the date of surgery to discharge. Overall survival is defined as the time from the date of surgery to death from any cause or to the last available follow-up. Oncological outcome includes the occurrence of local recurrence, systemic recurrence, or distant metastases. Data are collected retrospectively using routine clinical data and already existing follow-up data from the tumor documentation system. This includes discharge letters, operative reports, clinical progress notes, histopathological findings, available follow-up information, and data from tumor documentation. No additional patient-reported data collection using questionnaires or study-specific scores is performed. | — |
