Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: - Active athletes in youth competitive team sports who regularly participate in training sessions and competitions - Age: 14–18 - Female and male athletes - Regular participation in team training and competitions for at least one year - No specific restrictions regarding ethnic or sociodemographic characteristics - Non-smokers - Willingness to continue participating regularly in training and competitions during the study period - No known chronic diseases or acute health problems that could interfere with participation in the study or the collection of metabolomic markers and performance data - Written consent from participants and their legal guardians to participate in the study

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - younger than 14 or older than 18 (exception: if the athlete turns 18 during the current competitive season or falls into three age groups in the respective sport) - No experience or less than one year of experience in team training or competitive play - Presence of chronic illnesses or acute health problems - Presence of injuries - Active smoking or documented smoking in the past - Use of medications (e.g., anti-inflammatory drugs) - Prolonged absence from training or competition during the study period (e.g., due to vacation commitments) - Refusal to participate in the study - Lack of written consent from participants or their legal guardians - Refusal or unwillingness to undergo sample collection or to follow the study protocols

The goal of the project is to gain new insights into individual metabolic responses and processes in response to athletic exertion and, in the long term, to improve training management in youth competitive sports, particularly in team sports. To this end, a so-called metabolomic approach is being used, in which a wide range of small molecules in biological samples (blood, saliva, and stool) are measured to provide information about the current metabolic state. The analysis does not specifically target individual substances (= untargeted analysis), but rather captures a broad spectrum of metabolic products to identify potential changes or patterns during the competitive season.

Additional analyses examine the influence of position-specific requirements within each sport, gender-specific differences, and nutrition ((GNKQ—General Nutrition Knowledge Questionnaire) and sleep (FSVS—Fragebogen zum Schlafverhalten von Sportlerinnen und Sportlern) on metabolomic markers.
