Group 1: Retrospective analysis of all patients who developed postoperative pneumonia following thoracic surgical procedures between 2005 and 2025 with regard to gender-specific differences.

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Data analysis of patients who were treated in thoracic surgery from 2005 to 2025 Postoperative pneumonia after thoracic surgical procedure

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients who were treated in thoracic surgery before 2005 or after 2025 no postoperative pneumonia after thoracic surgical procedure

MeasureTime frame
1. Incidence of postoperative pneumonia: Proportion of patients who develop pneumonia in the postoperative course, defined based on clinical, radiological, and microbiological criteria. 2. Severity of postoperative pneumonia: Classification of pneumonia based on established scores and clinical parameters, such as the need for antibiotic escalation, intensive care treatment, or invasive ventilation.

MeasureTime frame
1. Impact on postoperative outcomes: Analysis of the impact of postoperative pneumonia on: hospital length of stay, intensive care unit stay, re-intubation rate, mortality 2. Risk factor analysis: Examination of preoperative and perioperative variables in connection with the occurrence of pneumonia. 3. Impact of surgical procedures: Comparison of different thoracic surgical approaches regarding the risk of pneumonia: open procedures vs. minimally invasive procedures (VATS/robotic). 4. Temporal course and diagnostics: Analysis of the timing of pneumonia occurrence as well as diagnostic measures. 5. Quality of care and prevention strategies: Analysis of existing prevention measures (e.g., respiratory therapy, early mobilization) and their effectiveness.
