Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Using ecological momentary assessment (EMA), participants will be prompted over a course of 7 consecutive days twice daily randomly between 8am and 8pm to respond to the following open-ended questions: - “What are you thinking right now?” - “What are you feeling right now (emotions in adjectives)?” - “What are you currently sensing in your body?” Responses will be provided in an open-ended format. If participants do not perceive any specific internal state at the moment, they will be instructed to enter a question mark (“?”). For individuals with skin picking, the urge to engage in skin picking is assessed twice daily alongside the three questions: - “How strong is your urge right now to manipulate your skin?” (0–10) Once daily in the evening (7pm), the following question is also asked: - “Approximately how long did you manipulate your skin today (in minutes)?”

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Questionnaires (administered directly prior and after the 7-day EMA assessment): - Skin Picking Scale–Revised (SPS-R; Gallinat et al., 2016) - Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS; Gratz & Roemer, 2004) - Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI; Franke, G. H., 2000)
