Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: - Patients with elevated calcitonin - Patients who have undergone a calcium stimulation test - Available histopathological examination following thyroid surgery - Complete clinical records

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - Incomplete datasets - Lack of histopathological correlation

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive value of the calcium stimulation test. Sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value will be calculated by comparing the results of the calcium stimulation test (index test; peak calcitonin after calcium administration) with the histopathological diagnosis after thyroidectomy as the reference standard (medullary thyroid carcinoma vs. C-cell hyperplasia or no MTC). The analysis will be performed retrospectively after availability of both datasets. The calcium stimulation test was performed preoperatively, and the reference standard (histopathology) was obtained postoperatively.
