Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients admitted via the emergency department and classified as requiring conservative (non-surgical) treatment. This includes patients with an ISAR (Identification of Seniors at Risk) score of 2 or higher on admission.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: The exclusion criteria for the study include aphasia, terminal illness, deafness, an inability to communicate in German, and critical acute conditions such as an unstable heart attack or stroke. Other patients in the oncology department are also excluded.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Occurrence of delirium during hospitalisation, as measured by the 4AT (T1: admission; T2: during hospitalisation if Nu-DESC = 2; T3: discharge if delirium persists).

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Delirium subtype measured using the Delirium Motor Subtype Scale (DMSS) immediately following a positive 4AT test. Readmission rate within 4 weeks (follow-up). Days spent at home within 4 weeks of discharge
