Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: CKD KDIGO GFR category G2-G4
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: active malignancy; immunosuppressive therapy; human immunodeficiency virus infection; acute kidney disease (defined as an increase of plasma creatinine more than 50 % within four weeks); pregnancy, age 50 mg/l and/or systemic antibiotic therapy); prior kidney transplantation; and hematologic malignancy.

| Endpoint: First occurrence within a follow-up period of up to five years of the composite endpoint consisting of an atherosclerotic event (defined as acute myocardial infarction, coronary, peripheral arterial, or cerebrovascular revascularization, stroke with symptoms over 24 hours, non-traumatic amputation above the ankle) and/or death from any cause. Assessment is performed once per year with a questionnaire. | — |
