Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: All patients treated for a hand infection at the Department of Hand, Plastic, Reconstructive and Burn Surgery, BG Trauma Center Tübingen, between January 1, 2015 and June 30, 2024. Diagnoses including: paronychia (panaritium) infectious tenosynovitis cellulitis (phlegmon) deep hand infections septic arthritis (joint empyema) osteomyelitis of the hand Age = 18 years
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Incomplete datasets (e.g., missing HbA1c values or missing information on medication).

| Primary outcome is the severity of hand infection in relation to the presence of metabolic syndrome. Severity is operationalized by the need for surgical intervention (yes/no) and the number of surgical procedures per patient.
