Eligibility
Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: (Subtotal) amputation injury of the thumb or one or more fingers (metacarpal bone to distal phalanx) with primary replantation attempt at the BG Unfallklinik Tübingen between January 1, 2016, and December 31, 2025.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Intraoperative termination of replantation if replantation was not technically possible. Extent of shortening cannot be determined based on available radiological imaging. Composite grafts in which tissue segments were replanted without restoration of perfusion. Extent of bone shortening cannot be determined due to lack of documentation.
Design outcomes
Primary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| The primary endpoint of the study is replantation success, defined as the survival of the replanted finger without the need for secondary amputation. The endpoint will be assessed at the time of hospital discharge following the replantation surgery. Data will be collected retrospectively from the electronic hospital records, operative reports, and clinical progress documentation. Replantation success will be recorded as a binary outcome (successful survival of the replanted digit versus failure requiring secondary amputation). | — |
Secondary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| Secondary endpoints include the association between the extent of bone shortening (in millimeters) and the success of finger replantation, as well as the occurrence of postoperative complications such as vascular insufficiency, revision surgery, or secondary amputation. | — |
