Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: General Inclusion Criteria: - written informed consent for participation has been obtained Patients: - diagnosis of borderline personality disorder (BPD) based on DSM or ICD criteria - a history of at least one documented episode of non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI)

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: General Exclusion Criteria: - pre-existing neurological or cardiovascular diseases, heart diseases Patients: - presence of acute suicidality - presence of an acute depressive episode - presence of the following comorbidities: psychotic disorders, mania, anxiety disorders, panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), current substance abuse Controls: - presence of any psychiatric disorder

Evaluation of the EPSI stimulus dataset based on participants' subjective ratings (assessment of emotional valence and arousal) as well as the recorded physiological correlates (electrodermal activity, heart rate variability)
