Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: - Normal hearing for his age - CI candidate - Experienced CI user - Native language: German - Right-handed

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - neurological disorders - cognitive impairments - left-handed - hearing loss (not age-related) - not suitable for MRI

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The aim of the study is to investigate the role of the dorsal stream during speech perception in CI patients in order to better understand the mechanisms of cortical reorganization following hearing loss and subsequent CI rehabilitation. Neural activity is measured using an fNIRS system.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
For participants with normal hearing, a comparison of the fNIRS and fMRI measurement methods is also carried out to validate the measurement system. To objectively record cognitive load and task complexity, pupil dilation is also measured using a video-based eye-tracking system.
