Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: - Healthy individuals over 18 years of age - Sufficient understanding of German or English to correctly perform the tests and provide informed consent. - Willingness to participate in the sensory odor tests, the Screening 12 test (LA-13-00001, Burghart), and to provide a one-time saliva sample. - Only men, postmenopausal women, or women using reliable contraception. - Written informed consent after full disclosure.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - Known general anosmia or other diagnosed disorders of the sense of smell. - Acute rhinitis, acute upper respiratory tract infection, or acute hay fever. - Diseases or medications that impair the sense of smell. - Insufficient language comprehension (German or English). - Pregnant or breastfeeding women. - Women of childbearing potential without reliable contraception, as the Screening 12 test (LA-13-00001, Burghart) is not to be used in pregnant women according to the manufacturer's instructions, and early pregnancy cannot be ruled out. - Individuals with a known allergy or hypersensitivity to any of the substances used in this study.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Odor thresholds (perception and recognition threshold) for specific odorants are assessed at each session using an odor/3-AFC test and a questionnaire/protocol form (n=3); specific odor receptor genotyping is performed once at the beginning of the study using Sanger sequencing after saliva sample collection and DNA isolation.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Hedonic evaluation of food aroma recombinants using a 3-AFC test and a 5-point scale.
