Group 1: Patients treated with neoadjuvant perioperative chemotherapy according to the FLOT regimen. Group 2: Patients treated with neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy according to the CROSS protocol.

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Adenocarcinoma and/or squamous cell carcinoma of the esophagus or the gastroesophageal junction (Siewert types I–III) Neoadjuvant treatment intention with either CROSS or FLOT Surgical resection performed at the study center Availability of complete clinical and pathological data

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Other histological tumor types No neoadjuvant treatment setting Prior treatment with alternative therapeutic regimens

Pathological complete response (pCR), defined as ypT0N0 in the postoperative resection specimen histopathology according to the UICC TNM classification.

R0 resection rate (microscopically margin-negative resection) Tumor regression grade (according to established histopathological grading systems) Tumor downstaging (comparison of clinical TNM stage [cTNM] before treatment and pathological TNM stage [ypTNM] after surgery) Postoperative complications 90-day mortality Lymph node yield and number of positive lymph nodes Circumferential resection margin (CRM) status Overall survival (OS)
