Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: - Healthy according to medical history and clinical examination - Very good written and spoken German - Current office work experience or sedentary work of >4 hours/day

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - Previous neurological, cardiovascular, or musculoskeletal conditions - Use of medications that affect cognitive or physiological parameters - Pregnancy

MeasureTime frame
The aim of the study is to investigate the influence of the type, duration, and frequency of short breaks from sitting on cognitive performance, mental well-being, and physiological and neurophysiological functions during sedentary office work. Three types of breaks—passive (PAN), a longer active break (PAL), and several short active breaks (PAS)—are examined in a simulated working day. Physical activity will take place on a medical treadmill. Subjective assessments (e.g., perceived mental load, stress level, mental fatigue), behavioral performance (reaction time, accuracy), and physical parameters will be recorded. The latter include cardiovascular activity (heart rate variability), muscular load (e.g., muscle activity, fatigue indicators), and neurophysiological responses (e.g., mental load, mental fatigue indicators, attention). These physiological parameters are collected using objective measurement methods such as electroencephalographie (EEG), electrocardiographie (ECG), and electromyography (EMG). The aim is to provide scientific evidence for work design prevention measures and practical recommendations for the design of exercise breaks during sedentary screen work.
