Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Inclusion criteria are physicians or students, age 18 years or older, provision of written informed consent, and sufficient German language proficiency to ensure full understanding of the study information and instructions.

Hypothesis: Does relaxed breathing with an extended exhalation phase at the beginning of da Vinci simulator training reduce stress? Stress is measured using electrodermal activity (EDA) and heart rate variability (HRV) as real-time measurements during training on the da Vinci training simulator (SimNow 2). Subjective stress is then measured using the NASA-TLX questionnaire. H1: Heart rate variability (HRV) and electrodermal activity (EDA) correlate significantly and linearly with the subjectively perceived stress level (NASA-TLX) during the training exercises. H2: Participants who perform a video-guided breathing exercise (paced breathing) with 6 breaths per minute and an extended exhalation phase before the exercises show significantly lower stress levels (physiological and subjective) than the control group without intervention.

H3: A moderate level of stress is associated with improved operational performance, whereas excessive stress leads to a reduction in performance. H4: Individual factors (e.g., prior experience and personal characteristics) modulate stress susceptibility and/or operational performance.
