Eligibility
Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Patients with a current physiotherapy prescription Neck pain lasting longer than three months
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Acute lesions of the shoulder or spine (less than three weeks) that significantly limit the patient’s activities of daily living (i.e., essential activities required to meet basic physical and psychological needs are not possible) Presence of general red flags, such as long-term use of corticosteroids, nausea, vomiting, or fever Current use of pain medication of any kind, including non-opioids, weak opioids, and strong opioids Recent surgery or fractures of any kind Cervical spondyloarthrosis (classified according to ICD-10 M47.812) Cervical neuralgia, unspecified (classified according to ICD-10 M54.2 Rheumatoid arthritis, unspecified (classified according to ICD-10 M06.9 Blindness and visual impairment (classified according to ICD-10 H54.-) Dizziness and vertigo (classified according to ICD-10 R42) Acute ankle sprain (supination injury) (classified according to ICD-10 S93.4)
Design outcomes
Primary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| The following outcomes will be assessed: Cervical joint position sense, determined by cervical angle reproduction using markerless face tracking Balance parameters (e.g., sway path, root mean square of acceleration), recorded using an iPhone attached to the participant Pressure pain threshold, measured at the surrounding neck and cervical musculature using an algometer Strength of the surrounding neck and cervical muscles, measured using a hand-held dynamometer Self-reported outcomes, assessed using the NPAD-d (Neck Pain and Disability Scale, German version) and painDETECT (pain questionnaire, German version) Outcomes will be assessed before the first training session (t0, baseline), immediately after the final (twelfth) training session (t1, post-intervention), and four weeks after completion of the intervention (t2, follow-up). | — |
Secondary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| How do the three training programs differ with regard to changes in pressure pain threshold (PPT), cervical proprioception (CJPS), balance performance (sway), and neck and cervical muscle strength after four weeks? | — |
