Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: - Patients who underwent invasive pre-surgical seizure diagnostics at our center (Clinic for Epileptology or Clinic for Neurosurgery at the University Hospital Bonn) between 2020 and 2024 and who had deep electrodes implanted in the piriform cortex.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - under 18 years of age - no deep electrodes implanted in the piriform cortex

MeasureTime frame
Endpoints are not defined in the narrow sense in the study. The study is descriptive in terms of the description of EEG phenomena (seizure patterns at the onset of seizures at contacts in the seizure generator, seizure patterns in the piriform cortex, temporal latency until activation of the piriform cortex, the above-mentioned variable in contralateral spread), description of interictal activity, and results of electrical stimulation.

In the further course, these variables will be characterized and compared separately for different brain lesions (or histopathologies in patients who underwent surgery at a later stage), as well as for seizure generators of different localization (e.g., temporal and extratemporal seizure generators), and for clinically symptomatic and subclinical seizures.
