Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: • Healthy participants of full age, able to provide informed consent and capable to reliably rate pain • Body mass index: 18 - 30

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - Acute or chronic illness - MR-specific exclusion criteria - Participation in drug studies - Regular drug use - Intake of painkillers within 24 hours of study procedures - Use of illegal substances - Pregnancy or breastfeeding - Acute skin disease or lesion on stimulation sites

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The aim of the study is to investigate how the influence of expectation on pain perception decreases with increasing difference between pain and expectation. This will be measured with pain ratings on a visual analogue scale (VAS) and analysed using behavioural computational models.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
The secondary aim is to investigate the neural underpinnings of this gradual integration which will be measured in the MR with BOLD (Blood-oxygenation-level–dependent) signal.
