Group 1: Retrospective analysis of patients who were treated for cardiac tamponade at Charité - Universitätsmedizin between 1st of January 2023 and 31st of December 2025.

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: - Patients treated at Charité - Universitätsmedizin for cardiac tamponade between 1st of January 2023 and 31st of December 2025 - Adults only, of all sexes - Patient data must be complete to allow analysis of the research question

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - Patients with cardiac tamponade and incomplete data (e.g. laboratory results or imaging findings) that prevent determination of the underlying etiology of the tamponade - Patients with cardiac tamponade and incomplete documentation of therapy and mortality

primary endpoint of descriptive primary research question: - Etiology of cardiac tamponade: traumatic, iatrogenic, aortic dissection, ventricular rupture after myocardial infarction, infectious, malignant, autoimmune, metabolic/endocrinological, idiopathic, other

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
secondary endpoint of descriptive secondary research question: - definitive treatment modality: medical therapy (without invasive intervention), pericardiocentesis ± drainage, pericardial window, pericardiectomy secondary endpoints of the secondary hypothesis: - In-hospital mortality - 30-day mortality exposures/covariates: - etiology - treatment - age - sex - comorbidities
