Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Inclusion Criteria for Patients and Relatives: - Patient or relative of a patient with a diagnosis of a non-curable oncological disease - Migration background - Capacity to provide informed consent Inclusion Criteria for Healthcare Professionals: - Involvement in the counseling and care of patients with a non-curable disease - Capacity to provide informed consent Inclusion Criteria for Students: -Student of "Translation Studies" or similar degree programs - Capacity to provide informed consent
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Exclusion Criteria for Patients: - Patients who, in the assessment of the treating medical team, are in a poor general condition or are too distressed to participate in any type of study - Patients with cognitive deficits - Patients with a life expectancy of only a few days Exclusion Criteria for Relatives: - Relatives who feel too distressed to participate in any type of study - Relatives with cognitive deficits - Relatives of patients in the active dying phase Exclusion Criteria for Healthcare Professionals: - Cognitive or communicative deficits Exclusion Criteria for Students: - Cognitive or communicative deficits

| Using a multi-perspective approach, the viewpoints of palliative care patients, relatives, aspiring interpreters, and healthcare professionals regarding language-mediated communication at the end of life will be captured: Assessment of the experiences, challenges, needs, and preferences of patients with a migration background and their relatives, as well as healthcare professionals, regarding language barriers in palliative care. Identification of specific training needs for aspiring interpreters regarding medical-palliative communication (e.g., technical terminology, communication techniques for sensitive topics, managing emotions). For each target group (patients, relatives, students, healthcare professionals), 2–3 focus groups with 3–6 participants each will be conducted (duration approx. 90 min). | — |
