Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Indication/planning of cataract surgery Capacity to give consent, sufficient understanding to participate Willingness to participate in pre- and post-operative interviews (follow-up approx. 3 months)

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Acute neurological illness (e.g., stroke within the last 3 months) Severe cognitive impairment (e.g., severe dementia) Relevant ophthalmological comorbidities with a significant impact on visual function (e.g., advanced age-related macular degeneration, optic atrophy) Planned major orthopedic surgery within the next 3 months Serious postoperative ocular complication that prevents valid follow-up

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Change in subjective risk of falling/fear of falling after cataract surgery, measured as the difference in FES-I score (preoperative vs. approximately 3 months postoperative).

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Change in mobility/self-efficacy-related safety in everyday life, e.g., as a difference in the ABC-D score (preoperative vs. postoperative). Subgroup comparison of endpoint changes between patients with monofocal and multifocal intraocular lenses. Exploratory: Correlation of endpoint changes with baseline characteristics (e.g., age, gender, history of falls, comorbidities/medication).
