Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: HbA1c 5.7-6.4%, fasting glucose 100-125 mg/dl

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Chronic diseases except for factors of metabolic syndrome (obesity, hyperlipidemia, high blood pressure, and any corresponding medication). Diseases leading to exclusion include, in particular, various types of diseases that limit performance or training (severe cardiovascular diseases, e.g., uncontrollable cardiac arrhythmias, heart failure (EF<55), peripheral arterial disease (Fontaine stage = II), degenerative joint diseases, or muscular diseases). Other exclusion criteria include: hormone therapy (except L-thyroxine), smoking status, acute oncological diseases or a history thereof (< 5 years), infections (HIV, hepatitis), psychiatric disorders, and/or addiction.
