Conditions

The health condition examined in this study comprises fractures of the hip and knee, including both native fractures (without a pre-existing implant) and periprosthetic fractures (fractures occurring in the area of an implanted joint replacement). These injuries are particularly relevant in older or medically complex individuals and are associated with challenging treatment pathways and an increased risk of complications.

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients with a native fracture of the hip or knee Patients with a periprosthetic fracture of the hip or knee Fractures documented between January 1, 2017, and August 31, 2023 Treatment or documentation at the LMU University Hospital

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Cases not documented within the defined study period (January 1, 2017 – August 31, 2023) Cases not recorded or treated at the LMU University Hospital Cases without a native or periprosthetic fracture of the hip or knee Cases with incomplete or unusable clinical documentation, making evaluation impossible

MeasureTime frame
The primary endpoints of the study include the fracture type, the chosen treatment approach, postoperative mobility, and the occurrence of complications. In addition, the study examines risk factors for reduced mobility and postoperative complications, as well as the influence of the timing of surgery on clinical outcomes. These parameters are assessed retrospectively based on all cases documented between January 1, 2017, and August 31, 2023. Data collection relies exclusively on existing clinical routine data extracted from the clinical information system (Meona), the digital imaging archive (PACS, Visage), and the surgical documentation system of the LMU University Hospital. All data are pseudonymized and analyzed on secure internal clinical servers.
