Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: - Patients’ capacity to give informed consent - Permanent molar requiring restoration due to caries or trauma, with the indication for a partial crown covering all cusps - Vitality: vital tooth or endodontically treated tooth with an adequate root canal treatment extending to the apical third and with no evidence of periapical inflammation - Presence of an antagonistic tooth - No untreated periodontal disease - Patient is capable of performing normal daily oral hygiene - Sufficient knowledge of the German language

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - Parafunction or bruxism - Poor prognosis: the tooth is unlikely to remain in the mouth for the next 5 years - Physical limitations or disabilities that prevent normal oral hygiene - Pulp-preserving measures required (direct or indirect pulp capping, partial pulpotomy) - Signs of severely neglected oral hygiene - Pregnancy or breastfeeding - Disease requiring antibiotic prophylaxis prior to dental treatment
