Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: In the second phase, this study will use anonymized retrospective patient data which will be randomly selected and exported from the hospital EHR system. While it is assumed that most included patients will be adults, the inclusion of children is possible (but not explicitly targeted).

MeasureTime frame
Patient encounters will be retrospectively exported from dental EHR systems, including structured items as well as free-text clinical notes. After de-identification, clinical concepts in the data will be annotated and mapped to SNOMED-CT. We will quantify the share of data captured as structured (coded) versus free-text fields, perform network analyses of terminology usage, and identify concepts that remain unmapped or inconsistently coded.

MeasureTime frame
A two-round Delphi consensus process will be organized to assess barriers for interoperability in dentistry and evaluate ways of overcoming them. The results of the questionnaire will be used to define a roadmap for improved interoperability in dentistry.
