Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Minimum age of 18 years to ensure legal capacity for study enrolment in Germany; first-time cortical or subcortical ischemic or haemorrhagic event, as validated by MRI or CT scans before admission to the rehabilitation center; diagnosis of aphasia, as confirmed by the Aachen Aphasia Test (AAT)
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Extremely impaired verbal comprehension that may prevent understanding of basic instructions; serious non-verbal cognitive deficits that may lead to unreliable findings, as demonstrated by performance more than two standard deviations below the norm average on the Corsi Block-Tapping Task; history of pre-stroke mental-health problems, as revealed per self-report and clinical records

| Accuracy rate in incongruent trials of the Attention Network Task (conflict effect); based on this accuracy rate, the evaluation will determine the statistical interaction between diagnosis of aphasia, type of instructed language, and syndrome severity according to the BDI. All parameters will be assessed at one point in time using a standardized language test or questionnaire. | — |
