Interventions

Group 1: Sleep restriction condition: Participants reduce their habitual sleep duration by 2 hours for 5 consecutive nights. Their sleep and rest-activity rhythms will be recorded at home via an EEG h

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: regular sleep-wake rhythm normal weight German-native speaker or comparable language skills non-smoker

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: acute or chronic illnesses, including sleep disorders acute or chronic medication use (except for monophasic oral contraceptives in women) alcohol or drug dependence shift work in the last 6 weeks travel across different time zones in the last 6 weeks blood or plasma donation in the last 4 weeks participation in studies involving medication in the last 2 months pregnancy and breastfeeding

MeasureTime frame
- Concentration of inflammation-related parameters in blood (incl. differential blood count, C-reactive protein, interleukin-6, klotho) before and after the experimental conditions - Performance in neurocognitive tests (incl. vigilance, short- and long-term memory, executive functions) performed at the end of each experimental condition

- sleep architecture, sleepiness - sleep-associated and immune-modulatory hormones (growth hormone, prolactin, cortisol)
