Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Male sex Age between 18 and 40 years Stable body weight and dietary habits No subjective symptoms during physical exertion No regular extensive resistance or endurance training (less than 3 hours per week) No contraindications to nutritional supplementation or ergogenic aids

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Smoking (> 5 cigarettes per week) Cachectic or consumptive diseases within the past 5 years Known serious internal diseases with corresponding laboratory abnormalities (transaminases > 2 × upper normal limit, creatinine > 1.3 mg/dl) Contraindications to physical exercise (e.g. chronic heart disease, arrhythmia, valvular disease, liver or kidney disease, arthritis; general exclusion criteria according to ACSM 2009) Chronic inflammatory diseases or immune deficiencies Presence of insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) Contraindications to performing a bioelectrical impedance analysis (e.g. cardiac pacemaker, functional prosthesis)
