Conditions

The Z-Project includes adult patients with a broad range of psychiatric disorders. The primary focus is on affective disorders (particularly major depressive disorder) and anxiety or stress-related disorders. To enable a transdiagnostic network perspective, additional diagnostic groups are also eligible, including: Depressive disorders (current or remitted major depressive episodes) Anxiety disorders (e.g. generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder) Trauma- and stre

Interventions

Group 1: Patients with mental disorders and healthy controls: The Z-Project includes adult patients with primary diagnoses of depression, anxiety disorders or schizophrenia spectrum disorders, as well

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The primary endpoint is the characterization of dynamic network structures of psychological symptoms, psychological processes, and neurobiological markers over a period of three weeks. This includes the assessment and modeling of symptom networks based on Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) data and their association with structural and functional MRI as well as EEG data obtained during the baseline assessment. During the smartphone-based EMA period of 21 days, assessments are conducted every two hours throughout the day, resulting in a total of five measurement points per day.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Secondary endpoints include: The predictive value of baseline MRI and EEG parameters for subsequent changes in individual network dynamics. Concordance between clinician-rated symptoms and self-reported EMA symptom data. Sex- and diagnosis-specific differences in network centrality measures and their temporal stability. Added predictive and explanatory value of speech-based features (baseline speech task and daily recordings) for EMA-derived networks. Transdiagnostic comparisons of network structures across depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia spectrum disorders, and healthy controls.
