Inadequate or unhealthy nutrition due to tooth loss or insufficient prosthetic rehabilitation

Interventions

Group 1: Completion of a questionnaire and performance of a semi-objective masticatory assessment using bread, as well as an objective masticatory evaluation using two-colored chewing gum
a one-time additional time requirement of 20 minutes during a regular appointment.

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Inclusion Criteria - Age: 65 years or older - Sex: male / female / diverse - Fully dentate / fixed dental prosthesis / removable dental prosthesis

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Exclusion Criteria - Patients unable to provide informed consent - Speech, articulation, or communication disorders - Neurological or cognitive impairments - Risk of aspiration during data collection - Gluten intolerance

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The primary aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between masticatory function and prosthetic rehabilitation in patients. This will enable the identification of the prosthetic treatment approach that provides the most favorable objective outcomes in terms of masticatory performance.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
The secondary objective is to enable a comparison between subjective and objective assessments of masticatory function using the three tests. Specifically, the study aims to determine whether there are types of prosthetic rehabilitation that patients perceive as providing good masticatory function, while objectively demonstrating poor performance. Conversely, it will also examine whether there are prosthetic treatments that yield objectively good masticatory function but are poorly tolerated by patients and perceived as ineffective in facilitating food intake.
